Installing Drupal 7, Apache Solr (multicores),Ubuntu 12.04 Resources

Searched feverishly for some documentation and useful resources for apache. it seems that it's hard to find a decent up to date guide. I have a list of resources that you may want to consult

The easiest way to install solr and tomcat on ubuntu seems to be:

sudo apt-get install solr-tomcat

After you run that you should just hit the browser: http://localhost:8080/solr

If you have tomcat manager setup you should be able to see that your solr webapp is running too: http://localhost:8080/manager/html

Setup tomcat manager

If you can't reach that page. Setup tomcat manager: sudo apt-get install tomcat6-admin Backup then edit the tomcat users file

sudo cp /etc/tomcat6/tomcat-users.xml /etc/tomcat6/tomcat-users.backup.xml
sudo vim /etc/tomcat6/tomcat-users.xml

Replace

<tomcat-users>
<role rolename="admin"/>
<role rolename="manager"/>
<user username="tc6-admin" password="" roles="admin,manager"/>
</tomcat-users>
